Sage was sorting through her herbs, or what was left of them. Spring was upon the prides now, but winter had been hard on all of them and she was running dangerously low on some plant species that she would feel much more comfortable having. Sage's paws worked almost unconsciously as her mind roamed over the territory, trying to find the best places where she could locate marigold and coltsfoot. Thyme was important as well.
The Ocelot came to the conclusion, with a resigned sigh, that it would take her several trips to collect all the herbs she needed. Unless of course, she could coerce another set of paws into helping her out. Her vivid green eyes glittered with purpose as Sage surveyed, her sight falling and dismissing cats as she found them. Too old, too young, too annoying. Was there no one suitable around here for her to use?
Sage's ears swiveled around as she picked up on pawsteps behind her. Turning her head with disinterest, probably just another cat who wouldn't be of use, Sage looked at the feline approaching. Her eyes widened though, at the prospect before her. Yes, this cat she held on hope for. Perhaps all was not lost then. Standing up, she couldn't contain an eager grin. Much as she hated to admit it, Sage was restless to escape the confines of the pride, to just run and smell the fresh air. As a healer, she didn't get as much of a chance to do this as some others, so she clutched onto any opportunity with a desperation. That was why she was so picky about a partner as well, she didn't get out often, and when she did she wanted it to be with someone who's company she'd actually enjoy. Was that too much to ask?
Sage has a lively bounce in her step as she approached the feline, excitement buzzing along her fur. Stopping beside the cat, she lifted her head to meet their eye, as Sage was quite petite and tiny. "Excuse me, there! Would I be able to trouble you for escort duty? I fear I'm in need of some extra paws in my herb collecting duties. You wouldn't be interested in accompanying me, would you?" That was another reason behind it, Sage was tiny and in no way a fighter, she needed protection as well as companionship.

Shade looked down at the small ocelot. She had just came back from a fight with a Vhenu tiger, and she had a small, but deep cut in her hind leg. "Of course i will come" Shade purred with exitement. She had never really been out to just go, usually to hunt or fight. "But first, i need something for this." She twisted around and showed Sage the cut. "Do you think you have anything to heal it?" Shade asked. If anything she needed to be healthy for the trip so she could fight. She twisted back around and looked into sage's eyes. "I would be happy to go after it is healed.Or maybe even go and find the herb." Shade purred and sat down.

Sage snapped to attention at the sight of the wound. She scolded herself mentally as she busied her paws, some Healer she was, not even noticing a wound like this. Her keen eyes were inquiring as she examined the cut, taking in the ragged edges, with did indeed point to a tiger being the cause of the attack. Tigers were known for now cleaning out their claws, so goodness knew what kind of gunk had been in them when it dealt this cut. The wound would need to be properly washed, lest it become infected and fester.
At least the wound was small, she consoled herself as she swept away to her den. She'd need more herbs for this, luckily she had enough marigold and nettle to treat it, which she was thankful for. Pushing into her herb storage, the small ocelot once thanked the ancestors for her small size. Because of this fact, she was able to keep all of her herbs in a small cranny, where it was nary impossible for other cats to get to. It almost indefinitely assured their safety from thieves. Almost. Sweeping her bright gaze around, Sage finally spotted the herbs she was looking for. Darting forward, she grabbed a mouthful of the textured nettle, making sure not to sting her mouth on the barbs, before next grabbing some marigold and a poppy flower, then wrapping them in oak leaves. She also gathered a bundle of moss and soaked it in the underground stream that fell into her cave. Making her way out of the den, she padded gracefully back to Shade.
Dropping her bundle, Sage silently set to work with her task, chewing up the marigold and nettle into a pulp. When it was ready, she first washed out the wound with the wet moss she had collected, making sure to thoroughly clean out any outside substances. Next, she packed the wounds with oak leaves, then applied the poultice. Finally, she over-laid her work with cobwebs to hold it in place. Turning to her poppy flower, Sage shook out just one seed and offered it to Shade. She wanted to dull the pain of the wound, but not the cheetah's senses. She would need those soon enough.
"I've used oak leaves to stave off infection, then nettle to make sure there is no swelling around the wound. Tiger claws are nasty things, so there is marigold as well to help the wound heal as quickly as possible. No major running or fighting until it's had a chance to heal, come to see me every day, alright?" After all, she needed to be sure that the wound was healing nicely. Stepping back, Sage examined her handy work as she waited for Shade to down the poppy seed. Then they could go. "I'd be much grateful for your company Shade, provided you take care of yourself."

Shade bit down on the seed and looked down at the wound. It was already feeling better. As she heard the ocelot say to come every day, she said "Alright, sage. And i'm ready." She than padded over to the small ocelot and waited for orders of where to go. She sat down and shrunk to Sage's size, her leg twitching now and then. She was full of excitement and couldn't help acting like a cub inside. She lifted her nose and smelled the fresh, sweet smelling herbs. She was tingling inside at the thought of being out again - without hunting, or fighting. Or with others. But this time to retrieve something, and to be in a small group - or rather just two cats.
Shade was very social, don't get it wrong. It was just something about being alone that soothed her. A calm quietness or just not being crowded. She was so used to being in big groups -- too used to it. Ever since she had became second-in-command it had been hard for her to be alone. Prey was always needed, intruders were often here, The leader had an annoucement. This and that, this and that. The crowdedness never ended. Ever. Shade was tired of this life and wished it could go back to normal. at least for a day or so. She sat there staring around the room wondering and thinking deep, deep thoughts. Her face was unreadable. She couldn't stop wondering what she would encounter in the days ahead. More groups. More crowdedness. She was just happy that she came when she did, because this was her day. The day she had been dreaming of only shortly after becoming second in commad. A day to be alone. A day to shine. A day to make mistakes. A day to make discoveries. A day to be free. That was all she really wanted. As she stared around the room she realized that she would treasure this day. Forever. She new that she would keep it until the day that she faded. The day that she , Shade, was no more. She just new.

Sage's ears pricked eagerly as Shade gave her okay to get going. She'd have to keep a close eye on the female to make sure she didn't push herself, but even Sage could detect the excited energy reverberating off the cheetah. An involuntary smile graced her muzzle at the thought, that the Second in Command was acting like a cub on their first proper outing. Well anyway, she'd be able to put the active energy to good use while they were out.
The ocelot gathered her paws beneath her, relaying the herbs she needed over in her mind again to remember. She'd need more marigold now that she had used the last of it on Shade. Then thyme, coltsfoot and perhaps some watermint if she was lucky enough to find some. If they passed a river, perhaps she'd try her luck. For now, she wanted to head out to open area, out of the ruins. She would find little more than weeds among the clustered rubble. Turning to Shade, she proceeded to tell her such. "We need to get to the outskirts of our territory, outside of this rubble. We'll not find much here. Can you lead the way?" She hated admitting it, but Shade knew the territory better than her, since she wasn't allowed the time to be out much. Perhaps she needed to escape more, a good stroll would do her heaps of good.
Padding towards the entrance, Sage's gait was haughty. She at least knew where that was. Looking back for Shade to follow, Sage gestured on with her ringed tail. "Come along then." She needed to be sure she could keep up with the cheetah, who now that she had an injury, was hopefully going to be taking care and moving a bit slower. The cut was small but deep, Shade needed to restrict serious movement until internally she had a chance to heal up. And Sage needed to be sure there was no infection residing there either. That meant Shade couldn't lick at the wound or get it wet. This was all such a pain, why did her second in command have to be so reckless with her battles? By all rights, she shouldn't have been able to defeat a tiger. It was against nature.
